We've used them for over 100 videos and have never seen a transcript as bad as the one above. I do suspect that perhaps they outsource the results which could explain why the above example was so bad if they had a bad supplier, although the worst we've ever had has been the occasional typo (of about max 5 typos on a 10 minute video is great in my opinion).

Re: TRANSCRIPTION FAIL: Speechpad vs. Dragon vs. Google Voice

How did you put that video into Google Voice to produce the transcription?

Re: Panel Discussion: The Pros & Cons Of Podcasting

This is really great to see such interesting discussion , I think podcasting is important in promoting business in a easy way .

Re: TRANSCRIPTION FAIL: Speechpad vs. Dragon vs. Google Voice

What we've received from Speechpad was much better than that. I do transcriptions through Amazon Mechanical Turk for Speechpad's sibling company, SpeechInk, and I would be ashamed to be associated with that work product (actually, I probably wouldn't have been paid if I'd done such a piss-poor job). Did you ever follow up with Speechpad and find out if a human being had ever actually worked on that transcription?

Re: Consumer-Generated Online Product Videos

You bring up a good point about how consumer-generated content is inherently more trustworthy than coming from a company. I think that same trustworthiness can be strengthened when content creators find some way to affirm their relationship with their audience (responding to blog comments, being followed on Twitter, being Friends on Facebook, etc.).

I suppose some businesses would have more of an interest in going after the video bloggers than others. Probably products that can be visually displayed and have some functional purpose are the best candidates.

Re: Consumer-Generated Online Product Videos

True, video is getting a lot more important now with the available bandwidth of the users

Re: Consumers Finding & Sharing Daily Deals

It would be interesting for companies to be able to see the dynamics of a Groupon or other daily deal campaign. You mention that companies probably aren't paying much attention to how their daily deals are being shared, but I would argue that they are interested in knowing about this interaction to better gauge ROI. I wonder if in the future these daily deal companies will start offering simple analytics to go along with their service. Wouldn't it be cool if a company could know the % of coupons redeemed that came from existing fans on Facebook or the % of coupons purchased from a referral source?

Re: The Dawn Of The Social Enterprise

Thanks for the heads-up on the broken link, Graeme. I fixed it.

I think you're probably right as to why Blue Shirt Nation is no longer active but I imagine they'd lose something by relying solely on public social media.

There are plenty of internal issues any employee would be reluctant to discuss in open forums but that the company would benefit from a discussion within its own walls, so to speak.

Re: The Dawn Of The Social Enterprise

David, nice stats! But that Blue Shirt Nation link goes to a dead page. Maybe that's fitting, as I understand it's no longer an active project at Best Buy, Which raises the question...why? I think it's because the company concluded it didn't need a special program -- all employees should just naturally be on social media, and pretty much were.

Re: CEOs Hating On Marketers

Thanks for you comment, Benjamin. I heard a podcast on the most recent CMO survey that said companies are projecting increasingly larger percentages social media spend over the next five years. With more money being pumped into social media, I'm sure CEO's will start demanding real metrics that go beyond "likes" and followers. The tricky part with social media is tying it to ROI to gauge effectiveness. Marketers have to make the argument that their efforts are creating brand lift, creating engagement, generating word-of-mouth, and enabling them to monitor the pulse of consumer sentiment which all are contributing factors to the bottom line.

Re: TRANSCRIPTION FAIL: Speechpad vs. Dragon vs. Google Voice

The google voice one is actually deep beatnik poetry (think Ginsberg or Kerouac) , about the economy, the internet and its effect on society ("We are video", etc) , coupons, getting a ticket, God, death/murder, money, scorned lovers (I guess Jennifer is leaving/killing herself because of either her lesbian lover (references to she) or a male lover involved with another woman).
" I.
